You are always sure of a warm welcome from Brendan, Julia and their staff who look forward to hosting you at the Hare & Hounds, a 200 year old coaching inn with much character set in the village of Sway in the heart of the beautiful New Forest.

Just a short drive from the Hare & Hounds is Sway Tower which stands some 218’ high. The tower was built of unreinforced concrete in 1879 and took five years to construct. Allegedly the owner was guided by Sir Christopher Wren via a medium to construct the tower.

The unique combination of the quality of the Hare & Hounds cask conditioned ales, together with a wide selection of fine wines and a varied menu of freshly prepared homemade specials, guarantee you will be spoilt for choice. Whether you are looking for a quiet drink, light lunch or 3 a course meal, this family run pub brings together everything to ensure you get a flavour of the forest to make your visit enjoyable.

Our Food

We have a wide and varied menu offering excellent home cooked food and with changing specials boards you’ll never be stuck for choice and will always want to come back for more. Our Sunday Roasts are noted as one of the best in the New Forest and you can choose from beef, pork or turkey or opt for our famous trio with all 3 and all the trimmings. Follow this with one of our many desserts you’ll love.

We can cater for all dietary requirements and have an extensive vegetarian and gluten free menu.

We only use the best suppliers and our great team in the kitchen have been with us for years, so they know what they are doing!

We have a restaurant area and a very friendly bar area and the full menu is available through out. Dogs are welcome in the bar are – so please let us know if you have one when booking.

We can cater for larger parties and can provide a buffet menu on request – whatever you do make sure you come hungry as your guaranteed to leave full!

Family Friendly

The Hare & Hound is well known for its friendly welcome, so it’s the ideal place to bring the whole family. We have an excellent children’s menu and many of the main meals are offered in smaller portions for children or those with smaller appetites.

We have two play areas – one we call “Telly Tubby Land” which is a great secure place full of tiny tykes play equipment for little toddler and the other is for older children full of adventure. Combine these with our lovely sunny beer garden and excellent food with great beer makes the Hare & Hound the perfect place for a family visit.

Dog Friendly

Dogs are welcome in the bar area of the pub and we are so welcoming that we have dog beds and blankets available – and when they haven’t all been eaten we have dog biscuits! The only thing we do ask is that dogs are kept on a lead, off the furniture and on the floor at all times.

Beer Garden

The garden at the Hare & Hounds is a favourite for tourists and locals alike in the summer it has the perfect mix of sunny and shady spots with tables close to the play areas should you have children. There is also a heated shelter out the front of the pub along with additional tables.

We have plenty of space to store your bike and even tie up your horse, so we can look after you no matter how you got here.

Pub Quiz

The Sunday Pub Quiz at the Hare & Hounds has been a firm favourite for the past 15 years ! Hosted each week by Ian Woolley from Quiz Britain we have a varied mix of questions, music round and the ever-popular picture round. Buy a drink and get a ticket to enter “Play Your Cards Right!” get all the way through higher or lower and you win the cash accumulator which often gets into the Hundreds ££.

With a cash prize for the winning team and bottles of wine to win the first question you’ll have to answer is what’s your team name !

So, gather your friends and extend the weekend – at only pound per player its unquestionable – you’ll have a great time !
